Moyo Island
Activities & Things to Do

Moyo Island rewards the curious. Above the water, jungle trails lead to hidden waterfalls and quiet villages. Below it, coral reefs and open ocean hold some of the richest marine life in the Flores Sea. Whatever drew you here, there is a way to spend your days exploring it properly.

Blue EmOcean's team will help you organise every activity, tailored to your schedule and built around what you came here to find. Small groups, and a genuine respect for the place we call home.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling

Ocean lovers, the adventure starts right at our jetty! Step in and swim straight onto our house reef, or take the boat out to hidden snorkeling spots further along the coast.

For those who want to go deeper, our daily fun dives and scuba diving courses lead into beautiful dive sites, from majestic deep walls and underwater pinnacles to healthy coral reefs.

The marine life in Moyo island is abundant. Reef sharks, sea turtles, and tropical reef fish share the water with the small and the strange: nudibranch, shrimp, and other macro critters hiding in the coral for those who know where to look.

Explore Moyo's Waterfalls

One of Moyo Island's great marvels is its waterfalls. The most famous is Mata Jitu, a four-tiered cascade deep in the rainforest. But Mata Jitu is not the only one. Scattered through the jungle are smaller, lesser-known waterfalls and secret bathing pools, such as Diwu Mbai Waterfall and Sangelo Waterfall found only by those willing to wander a little further off the trail.

A one-hour hike, or a short motorbike ride through the forest, leads to Mata Jitu waterfall, a four-tiered waterfall with seven crystal-clear pools hidden deep under the jungle canopy.

A short step from Labuan Aji village, or 45 minutes walk from Blue EmOcean, Diwu Mbai is a beautiful waterfall set along the river, complete with a rope swing for those who want to jump straight into the pool below.

Reachable only by boat, Sengalo Waterfall is hidden and drops ten meters into a quiet bathing pool, tucked away from the rest of the island's trails.

Day trip to
Satonda Island

A full day excursion to Satonda Island, a small volcanic island just off the coast of Moyo, known for the large lake that fills its crater and the coral reef that wraps around its shore.

The day begins with a stop at the bat cave, home to colonies of flying foxes, followed by lunch in a local fishing village. From there, the boat continues to Satonda Island itself, where the crater lake waits at the heart of the island. Explore the island on foot, plunge into the still waters of the lake, or snorkel the coral reef that surrounds the shore.

Swim with
Whale Shark

Seasonal, October to March

Meet the whale sharks of Sumbawa. At Blue EmOcean, we offer only ethical whale shark encounters, built for sustainable, lasting blue ecotourism.

Seeing a whale shark is never guaranteed, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can guarantee is how we go about it.

Our encounters take place away from the mass tourism sites, where local fishermen do not feed the animals, and where the number of boats and swimmers around each whale shark is carefully controlled. The animal comes first, always.

Dolphin Tour

Travel out into the open ocean to find up to 200 dolphins at a time, jumping and spinning around the boat in a display you will not stop watching. Half day and full day tours are both available, depending on how much of the open water you want to see.
